Top 5 reasons for starting your job search this week-12.29.14

12.30.2014

1. You’ve been very social during the holiday season.
This means you started your job search before you even knew you were networking. If you met someone over the last few weeks who works for a company you’d like to get hired at, ask them to coffee or lunch and see what they know about the job prospects at their company.

2. Year-end bonuses will be paid.
December typically marks the month in the year when bonuses are paid. Job seekers who have landed their next opportunity will be waiting until the end of December to move on, leaving Human Resources to fill their positions in January.

3. You’re not sure what you want to be when you grow up.
You’re pretty sure the position you’ve had for the last four to five years is not what you want to be doing for the next fifteen or twenty years, but you’re no closer to knowing where you want to take your career. December and January are two of the biggest months for hiring temporary or temp-to-hire workers. So if you’ve always wanted to try X,Y or Z, now might be the time to get hired on a non-permanent basis to try something new.

4. Start your new year’s resolutions now.
If you have said, “I’m going to get a new job this year,” there’s no time like the present. Get a jump on 2015, and start looking now.

5. People are quitting their jobs at nearly pre-recession levels.
American workers are quitting their jobs in the biggest numbers since 2008 according to the Labor Department’s  Fall  statistics. This reflects a gain in more desirable jobs being created due to a strengthening economy, and more jobs being left for better paying positions. People are more confident in being able to improve their work life and are abandoning the “this job is stable, so I’ll stay” mentality.
